The Witcher 4 Soft First Touches

Woo-hoo! The CDPR has finally announced The Witcher 4 and revealed the first cinematic trailer. Next year will be the 10th anniversary since the Wild Hunt release, the game that does not want to age yet.

My journey through the Witcher-verse started in 2018 when I returned from a vacation and had an extra week at home before the office. I decided to play the Wild Hunt and was completely swallowed by it. I was lost in time and the week passed me at the speed of light. My first experience with this game was astonishing.

The Witcher 3 is an absolute masterpiece, yet it has some weak spots but what does not? The sound design, the picture, the level design (especially in the Velen), the side quests, and many other things make this game GOAT.

I knew about the franchise before and that it is based on books, my ex-girlfriend was a huge fan of the games and books, but I didn’t show any interest back then. After finishing the first try in the Wild Hunt, I decided to fill the gap with the books and bought the whole series. I can’t say I was disappointed after I finished them but I found the books mediocre. Sapkowski is a big architect, his ideas about the Witcherverse are really great, I like most of them. At the same time, his ability to tell the story is not his strongest part. The main plot is more annoying than exciting. Especially the focus on Ciri instead of Geralt. Although, some of Geralt’s parts are boring as hell too.

I find the fact that I like Ciri as the main protagonist of the next game funny. I dislike her in the books but I prefer to see her as a pivotal character in the upcoming release. I see many think the opposite. My motivation is that the Witcher games cannot be based on an unnamed, unknown, and random character as many would want. It’d be a significant downgrade from the storytelling point of view. I can’t imagine CDPR maintaining the same level of tension with a completely new character after Geralt, Yen (and the third she-wheel whose name I don’t remember), Ciri, and others.

I hope the CDPR will make another banger we all will love for the next decade. Let the shadow of the Woke not touch this and upcoming games!
